What We Fund: PC Reads

Park City READS is a local nonprofit advocating for recognition and education of dyslexic students. They promote elevating literacy through early identification of struggling readers, effective reading interventions and appropriate classroom accommodations. They provide resources and support to families with struggling readers, particularly those identified as dyslexic.

Their mission is to: Recognize, Educate & Advocate for Dyslexic Students.

Dyslexia Facts

  • Dyslexia is the most common learning disability. Individuals have difficulty in the areas of language processing.
  • About 70 to 85% of children who are placed in special education for learning disabilities are dyslexic.
  • Children have a 50% chance of having dyslexia if one parent has it.
  • Dyslexia ranges from mild to severe. It is common forĀ  people with dyslexia also to have ADHD.
  • Those with dyslexia use about 5 times more energy to complete mental tasks.
